Wrexham-based food technology company Mimica has received support through the Flintshire and Wrexham Investment Zone's SME Manufacturing Grant to expand production of its freshness-monitoring technology.
The company has developed Bump, a patented indicator designed to respond to actual storage conditions and provide a physical signal when food or drink has spoiled. The technology aims to reduce unnecessary food waste by providing information about product freshness beyond conventional date labels.
Investment Zone support will contribute to new manufacturing equipment and automation at Mimica's production facility at the Bryn Business Centre in Wrexham. The company also plans to expand its on-site laboratory, bringing together food scientists, designers and engineers to support further product development.
Mimica reports growing commercial interest in the technology and intends to increase production capacity as it moves towards wider adoption across the food industry.
The grant forms part of the Investment Zone's manufacturing support programme, which aims to help local businesses expand, improve productivity and develop new technologies.
