The base building for the Sustainable Materials and Manufacturing Centre at Kingsway in Rochdale has been completed, marking a development milestone for Greater Manchester's advanced manufacturing programme.
The centre is part of Atom Valley and is intended to provide specialist facilities and practical support for businesses working with advanced materials and manufacturing technologies. The next stage will involve fitting out the building ahead of its planned opening in 2027.
The development has received support from several public funding sources, including £10 million from the Greater Manchester Investment Zone. Additional contributions have been identified from the Towns Fund and the Greater Manchester Good Growth Fund.
The facility is expected to connect businesses with research organisations and national technical expertise, including the Centre of Expertise in Advanced Materials and Sustainability. That wider network has already worked with local companies on materials and industrial innovation.
Completion of the base building demonstrates physical progress. Specialist installation, occupation and future business outcomes remain subsequent stages of the project.
