Glasgow City Region confirms new Investment Zone tax site

Glasgow City Region has confirmed the designation of an Investment Zone tax site covering the Advanced Manufacturing Innovation District Scotland and Glasgow Airport.

Announced on 13 March 2026, the designation was agreed by the UK and Scottish governments as part of the region's £190 million Investment Zone. It introduces tax reliefs intended to encourage businesses operating in advanced manufacturing to invest and establish activity within the designated area.

The Investment Zone builds on existing industrial and research capabilities, including activity around the airport and the Advanced Manufacturing Innovation District. The region expects the incentives to support further development of these assets and encourage investment in manufacturing, innovation and employment.

The City Region also expects to retain additional non-domestic rates generated across the Investment Zone over a 25-year period. It estimates that this could provide up to £162 million for reinvestment, although the eventual amount will depend on future business activity.

The designation establishes where tax incentives can be applied. Its significance for the wider Investment Zone will depend on how businesses use the site and whether that activity contributes to the region's manufacturing objectives.
