Liverpool City Region Combined Authority has put forward plans to invest nearly £10 million of Life Sciences Investment Zone funding in a new data and health technology initiative led by the University of Liverpool.
The proposed Civic HealthTech Innovation Zone would support work on digital health and social care technologies, including uses of data and artificial intelligence. It is intended to connect researchers, healthcare organisations and businesses seeking to develop new products and services.
The Combined Authority was asked to consider an allocation of £9.97 million, with a further £2.5 million expected from other sources including the university. Supporters of the proposal expect it to attract investment and help firms grow in the region.
The proposal includes ambitions to support more than 100 businesses and create at least 365 jobs. These are planned results and should not be confused with completed activity.
The proposal illustrates how the Investment Zone is seeking to connect research facilities with commercial applications in health technology. Project approval and delivery remain separate stages before the expected benefits can be assessed.
