The North East of Scotland Investment Zone Joint Committee has considered a formal arrangement for an additional £5 million skills programme, intended to support workforce development in Aberdeen and Aberdeenshire.
At its meeting on 2 June 2026, the committee received a report on the memorandum of understanding agreed with the Scottish Government. The programme is intended to address skills needs associated with green energy and digital technology, the Investment Zone's two priority sectors.
Delivery is expected to involve the Regional Skills Partnership, employers and other Investment Zone stakeholders. The approach is designed to support existing workers, attract talent and help organisations develop the capabilities required by emerging industries.
The funding sits alongside the wider Investment Zone investment programme, which brings together business development, infrastructure and innovation activity. The new skills arrangements establish a framework for identifying and supporting individual projects.
Agreement on the programme's governance should be distinguished from the award of funding to specific applicants. Individual funding calls and project decisions follow separately.
