Work begins at West Midlands Investment Zone site in Coventry

Work has begun at GreenPower Park in Coventry, one of the major development sites supported through the West Midlands Investment Zone.

The West Midlands Combined Authority announced the start of work on 3 August 2026. The project involves redevelopment of a former airfield for industrial activity, including facilities intended to support battery technology and related advanced manufacturing.

The development is being taken forward by Coventry City Council and the Rigby Group. It is backed by £23 million of funding through the Combined Authority's Investment Zone programme, with investment intended to help prepare the site and enable its longer-term industrial use.

Planning permission has been secured for up to 5.7 million square feet of industrial development. The partners anticipate that a fully developed site could support significant employment and investment, although those projections depend on future occupation and business decisions.

The start of physical work marks a delivery milestone for the Investment Zone, moving beyond funding commitments and planning activity towards preparing facilities for future industrial investment.
